Egg Hunting

For the past two years we've gone to our friends the Olivier's for Easter dinner and egg hunting. We always have a delicious dinner and the kids play and we visit. Look how excited they are!!!

Decorating Easter Eggs

We didn't get around to decorating the eggs until Sunday afternoon. Jared and Caroline - the artists at work...

Christina the perfectionist

Jacob - too cool to be excited about decorating eggs -
he'd rather play his new game.

A new cousin...

In March we went to Indiana to see my sister Harmony's new baby
and be there for the blessing. Our girls are all about babies. Elena
looks just like her big sister at that age and we're sure she'll be just
as sweet!

Jacob's first Pinewood Derby

So the first Pinewood Derby for Jacob was in March, and I'm just now putting it on here. Better late than never, I guess! Jared and Jacob worked hard on their car. They cut it out at the wood shop on campus and spent many nights sanding and painting it. It's hard to say who was more excited about it - Jacob or Jared! This exercise has transported Jacob to a whole new world of interest! In researching what would be the best design for his car, he started looking at real cars. Now we can't drive anywhere without him pointing out the cars that we pass by and what make and model they are. He now thinks our van is ugly and asked if we could trade it in for a Mustang! Here's his finished car. He named it "The Corvette".Here they are weighing it in at the race. It was over weight so they

had to drill out some wood before it could qualify.

Here are a couple of Jacob's races...

Jacob really wanted to get a trophy and he ended up with a 3rd place for his car design. Jacob and Jared had a great time and are already planning what they are going to do for next year!

Congratulations Jacob!!!

First Annual Illinois Marathon

In April my friend Anna and I participated in the first annual Illinois marathon here in C-U. It was freezing at 8 o'clock in the morning! We chatted and saw lots of people we knew who were participating in the 5K (like us) and the half and full-marathons.
There were a lot of people there! It looked like a
sea of people ahead of us and another sea behind us!

Right before we entered the stadium to cross the finish line, we passed this sign that was intended for the full-marathoners. We had just gone 3.1 miles and thought it was funny that we were at the 26 mile marker.
Jared and Caroline were there waiting for us and we got medals and water.
It was so fun to be there and feel the momentum from thousands of people running, that I told Jared I wanted to do it again. So we decided we'd start training to run the next 5K in August here. Jared said he'd just run in his combat boots, but we were able to convince him running shoes might be better. Here he is in his new duds! Our goal is to get in better shape and here's our Before picture:
